Project shit-tin!

Post by dorift » Sun 25 Mar, 2012 11:11 pm

Well I finally have something to stuff around with and have a laugh driving and tinkering.

A truly classic little beast.
1996 Nissan Micra 1.3 twin cam efi 3 door with aircon! Aka my new work hack.

More updates will follow as I attempt to beautify and improve this thing (some may say, polish the turd).

Few pics from picking it up, dumping it on the lawn, and a quick wash.

Put another engine in the back to drive the rear wheels.

Though something tells me that a CD player and a pair of classic 6x9's will already be on the cards.

Nah there's no parcel shelf to put 6x9's in lol.
I don't listen to music anyway, 612ABC only. The Sony 52w x 4 head unit and 6" factory door speakers should suffice.

Boods, there will be no exhaust changes on it- fkn hate noisy shitters.

I'm not looking forward to tellin my dad I've bought this thing... He's going to give me so much shit.

Going to chase down some suspension for it, depending on what I can find I'll probably go some king springs super lows, sway bars and maybe a panhard rod. Tinting has to be done when I get the cash, to give it a better overall look but also to help hide being able to see the interior from outside the car. I'll prob go with the fella that Danny/Cameron used.

On the lookout for some rims for it but... Lemme know if anyone is aware of some nice JDM looking rims. Preferably 14/15" with a slight dish; I would prefer to have something that has black centres/polished lip, or something that I can paint the centres black. Watanabes/SSR/rays all interest me, although I've found some super cheap ROH 15x6's that I could paint gloss black/charcoal.
For the moment I need to get a water pump, a headlight bulb, interior light and a cigarette lighter socket so I can charge my phone. Oh, and a fan switch.
And I can't get the glovebox open. Frustrating. I'll prob end up breaking it. Sounds like there's a 5c piece in there and I'm dying to find out!

I have a reco'd power steering pump ($30) and non-power steering rack ($40) here if either will suit your beast.
I just don't know if people like me. I know when they don't like me 'cause they'll say things like, 'Yeah, that's him, officer.'

I saw a really neat flush mount usb port on ebay which fits in a regular cigarette adapter hole. Would mean that you could plug your iphone cable directly into the plug.

That all said, I've bought heaps of these and they work a treat. http://www.dealextreme.com/p/car-cigare ... -12v-40470

I'll get my mechanic to have a look and see if I need a steering rack. I don't have power steer though.

Also keeping an eye out for N14 front brake assy. I'm led to believe that the 1.6ltr is a straight fit, maybe a little more work to do the 2.0ltr?

And Ryan, those wheels would be porn but I'm doing this all on a very tight budget- ill take what I can get, as long as they are cheap and can be tidied up okay. Found a fair few here and there but most are too wide (7+ inches) or have a big rwd offset.

the buddy clubs look good a big size with dish. imo, they just look strange in a small size with no dish.
the rims on my trd were the buddy clubs.

these would be my pick. plus, cheap cheap cheap. :)

Those Buddyclub's are pretty cheap in the small sizes. Ask someone who stocks them to find out. They aren't light weight so they aren't expensive like their other models.

I love those rims too :drool

@danny- eBay mate. A wholesaler on the northside. Wasn't interested in it, think he just buys trades and sometimes doesn't get a choice in what he gets. He probably still made a big of cash off it.
I really like those rims btw, saw them on sat night as I trawled the net looking for cheapies! But I'm not too fussed on 4 spoke really, will see if they're still available when I'm actually ready to buy.

@ash- on my phone ATM and its painful navigating web pages ATM. Looked at the first link you posted, a couple of them are porn, but 8" wide!! Haha
Where is that place located? Any idea of freight cost?

@ryan- yeah I agree, and they are sick wheels, but still, I don't want to spend much at all on rims considering the overall cost budget, and the initial purchase price of the car. ;) I'll be hooked up for decent tyres if whatever I buy doesn't have rubber fitted.

Boostcrusiing is hilarious for wheels and tyres... I got to page 56 (on my phone) and was only at the start of February!

just think of all the hot sluts throwing themselves at you with the massive "poke" and of course you'll have to paint them in a flouro colour...
apparently thats the "fashion" these days. :vomit

the place is in the states, but shipping costs are quite good.

put it this way. my rims cost me $1300 from a place in sydney. originally, i was gonna buy them from this place in the states for $999, but they were on backorder.

now that i have to replace a rim, i called the place in sydney and they wanted $900 for ONE (1)!!!!!!! (special order apparently!)
so i bought it from the place in the states for $300.

Cheap is a relative term. I'm sure they're "cheap" if you're planning to put them on a new Civic, but in the case of a ~17 year old Micra they're probably worth more than the entire car.

Spot on lol

I'm looking for stuff like Danny posted. Both because I want to spend little, and because it's half the fun- chasing random shit and hoping to find something that fits/works!

I feel like I just bought my first car again.

Roughish wheels like I'm chasing can be found for 200-400 with tyres quite often. :)
