2010 FORD FG FALCON XR6T

Post by SecaBoy » Wed 07 Jul, 2010 4:34 pm

thought i'd better start a new thread for the new car... :)

its a brand new 2010 XR6T in Nitro...
i take delivery whenever i "de-modify" the trd and trade it in to them...

it'll have a custom leather interior which is black with blue stitching and "XR6 TURBO" embossed into the headrests...

here are the only pics i have of her: (taken off the dealer's website)

anyway, here are the planned mods from the very little amount of research i've done today... still have a WHOLE lot more research to do...
if anyone has any suggestions/comments, i'm open to hear them...
the numbers to the right of the items is the most likely the order/stages i'll be buying & installing them in. :) (yes, i really am that anal and ocd about modding cars these days!)
http://www.forghani.net/forum/download.php?id=2306

the first 4 items in the stereo section is only the first option that i came across today... i'm SURE there will be a cheaper option out there and if anyone knows what it is, i'm all ears... :D

scrap the stereo mods and why do you need a dvd player, infact why does anyone need a dvd player in their car unless they travel and have kids.

do the suspension work and enjoy it.

save a shit load of money too.

These mods are over the next 2-3yrs (if at all). So it's not that much.

Anyway... The DVD player is basically for 'wank' factor. Lol
Probably won't get it unless it comes with the sat nav etc.
There has to be a cheaper set up than that one I've seen. I'll keep looking.
In total, I don't really wanna spend more than 2.5k on the stereo.

Something I haven't allowed for in the list is brakes. Don't know where to start on that cause I don't know how good/bad the std brakes are. :)

Great comeback ash! :P

Standard brakes are crap, not sure how hard you're going to be punting this though, a good set of pads and rotors should be sufficient.

I've driven a few XR6 turbo's and they are pretty nice cars. The engine is fantastic and the 6 speed auto is sublime (manual sucks arse, I always hit my foot on the steering column under the dash because of the shit clutch placement).

Have fun with the car, I reckon its a massive step up from the camry.

i figured the brakes would be just enough for street driving... but if i started pushing them hard through the mountains etc then they would probably be close/over their limit..
much like the trd's brakes were... :)

this ZF auto box is seriously by far the best auto box i've ever come across... this also includes the c63 amg's box... it could just be me, but it just seems to be 'smarter' than the amg...
plus, dropping 3cyls on gear change to change gears faster!!!! since when was ford this sophisticatic!!!

i should have bought this car instead of the TRD... (there you go, i've said it!)
but it wasnt due for release until another 4mths+ after i got the TRD (or so the sales guy told me anyway), so i ended up with the TRD...
i dont regret buying the TRD AT ALL though... its a great car and acheives it's aim pretty damn well... plus with a few mods, it handled really well through the twisties...
the thing that really let it down was the stupid auto box.. so shit its not funny! changing 2,000rpm before redline so it doesnt bounce off the rev limiter is not cool!

anyway, thats all history now! its all about the xr6t now! :D
i got tomorrow off, so gonna do all the 'de-modding' of the TRD and then take it in on either friday arvo or saturday to get my new car...
.

trent: all day yesterday, i was lurking around www.fordxr6turbo.com
i was aiming on lurking around on www.fordforums.com.au today, but unfortunately i have to do some "work"... :( hehe

Sounds like you will be happy with the XR6 Ash, good news.

As for the brakes I had an XR6 years ago and with a set of decent pads and rotors the brakes were generally fine. I am sure that the stock brakes on your car are better then mine were on a 1993 model so a simple pad and rotor upgrade will be plenty. I dont think you will need Brembos or anything like that.

I am curious about the auto box though and how it would compare to the DSG in my car. DSG is brilliant for most places and I dont feel I want anything more even over Nebo and Glorious.

mums aurion gearbox isnt too bad. just the torque steer and the traction control that shits me. Who the fuck would put 200kw (265hp) through the front wheels is an idiot. let alone your turd.

anyway, youll be hanging the ass out in no time. and a better balanced car under cornering (drive coming from where its meant to)

meh... each to their own... the TRD was a fantastic car i thought... torque steer? ummm, just hold the steering wheel!
with enough time behind the wheel, you know which way the car will pull, so you just correct it slightly...

dont suppose your mum wants a rear sway bar and front strut brace for the aurion does she?
if you guys want them, they're yours...

Wow dude... nice upgrade...

Out of curiosity, you didn't want an EVO instead of a ford xr6 turbo?

Guess my preference would have been the evo, but the xr6t has some good potential for drifting it around, burnouts etc... all those "bogan" things to do... (which are freakin fun!!!)

Very nice car dude, am sure you will enjoy it....

Hmm ok, so guesses for your next car in 2yrs time... maybe a 135 BMW  M3 or M5 even 8)

yeah, i thought about an EVO... but it has two problems for me that i cant get over...
1) its really small inside compared to the bigger cars... and i'm a big guy, so i feel cramped inside it...
2) its still sorta classed as a "hoons" car... and after my wrx i swore i'd never own a "hoons" car as a daily driver again... to much issues from the cops... :(

apart from those two, then hell yes, i would have loved an evo...
also, the evo is another 20k on top of what i paid for this car... :)

2yrs? give me a break! 2.5yrs!

EDIT: i just did some somes and on average, i have changed cars every 2yrs!
thats just excessive and not normal...

You do realise that the silvia was a hoons car also right? :) The XR6T is too... BUT, it will only be if you dump it, change the rims, big exhaust etc etc

Meh, i used to change cars every 6mths.. cause i just got bored with cars. But the price range was always under $10k and were not new cars :)

but for the past 4yrs i had the same car (my old corona) which i sold when i moved down here, and bought the mazda for $2k as an a to b car for me which i kept as an a to b car for down here too

anyways - back on topic!

Sweet as car, those cars have HUGE potential for some big power outputs.

i knew someone would pick on the silvia... thats why i said "as a daily driver"... ;) lol
while i had my silvia i had the euro and then the trd... :D

i see the xr6t as more of a "old man's hoon car" rather than just a straight out punk kid's hoons car...
or maybe i'm just trying to convince myself of that cause i love the car so much! haha

yeah, they can make BIG power with relatively little amount of money.. good for me if i keep this car more than 3yrs and decide to go nuts on it... :D

for engine mods, talk to hi-torque. Jays F6 pulled 12.6's with fuel pump, injectors, boost solenoid and tune. The car already had exhaust and airfilter upgrade.

Then $30k on the motor later, it made 900+rwhp on race fuel and 600+rwhp on pump fuel. Quickest it ever ran on street tyres was 12.1@139 on 500rwhp. when he cranked the boost any higher it went slower cause it fried the tyres harder.
