HP have released a BIOS update for the N36/N40/N54 HP Microservers that fixes the Windows 2012 R2 stops responding issue during boot, or during installation of the operating system.

This has happened a few times this month now. I think it might have something to do with how hot it is where the server is located.

I have it in the theatre, and I always keep the blinds closed but the sun is either on the back window or the side windows for most of the day and its easily the hottest room in the house.

I use the Server as the HTPC as well so I dont really want to move it.

What are everyones thoughts? Temp causing it or something else?

That's PXE booting.

Could mean a few things...
1. Something on the keyboard telling it to PXE boot (usually the F12 key)
2. Sticky F12 key
3. Something in the bios (did you do a recent flash update?), that has set PXE boot as the first option (change it to boot from HDD first).

*EDIT* - I just looked at the image again and it says "Boot failed", and then it's PXE booting.

This means your boot device (whatever you told it to boot from), has not worked. If it's a USB thumb drive, get another one (it could have issues). If it's your hard drive (get another one... could be a sign of a pending failure).

I have no keyboard attached.

The boot device is the standard 250gb sea gate that came with the server.

Looks like its time to change it out.

Thanks Noel!

im looking at rebuiliding my server with 3 4tb WD Reds.

i guess for me, i'm gonna run the 4tb drives as future proofing (to a certain extent). i could add more drives up the top, but then come another year, i'll run outta space again

thats my thoughts behind it anyway. :)
