OSX El Capitan

Post by iano » Fri 02 Oct, 2015 6:11 am

Update ran fine on my macbook air and it is instantly quicker.

Trying to put it on my iMac (mid 2011) model and the app store says it has downloaded, however the install won't commence, just keeps hanging.

Anybody getting this? :?

Problem solved, for some reason it put the download into the applications folder.

I'm liking it so far. Seems to be more "polished" than Yosemite, less buggy.

It's a shame they ran out of big cat names, El Capitan is a stupid name for an OS

Named after a 900m cliff made of pure granite. Went there once on a family holiday and as a natural landscape it is spellbinding

is it?? i updated it using the app store nothing seemed to go into the apps folder, it just installed automatically.

also, i got about halfway through the install and had to go - so i just closed the lid. opened it a day later and the installation picked up where it left off and finished perfectly. a-mazing.

it gets saved there and then deleted as part of the installation process i thought.

i always copy the installation file and save it to my server cause we have eleventybillion macs in our house so its easier to just download it once and then install it on all macs.

Yep this ^

If you don't start the install straight after downloading it sits in your apps folder

Ah, yep that's what happened on my iMac then. Clicked update via App Store, let the download run but the system slept after 20min due to power saving feature. Came back later and instead of resuming it simply saved the file in the app folder. On the Mac air I was doing other stuff during the DL and it then installed straight away.
