VR

has anyone used one of these things yet?

http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/wearables/gear-vr/

holy heck they are good. if you have a compatible phone you should 200% get one. it is epicly good. you basically spend $100 on the headset and then strap your phone into it and you have a VR headset. the phone screen resolution isn't completely perfect - you can see pixels when you are looking at a still image - but when you move your head or watch a video then the pixels all dissapear. it sounds a lot worse than it is, and for the $100 cost of the headset it is instantly forgiveable.

and it is surprising how much content there is - you can get a gopro mount that you strap 4 gopros into and record 3d video.

http://gopro.com/spherical

so you can imagine that all of the redbull-style extreme sports dudes are out there making extreme videos of them doing extreme things. riding along while they surf massive waves is pretttttttty fucking cool.

this is most definitely the next big thing and you should try one now. and if it's this good on android, just imagine how good it'll be when apple bring out their headset........... ;)

Have a look at the 360 Fly

They are about $700 and record in 360x280degs. Then you can play the footage right from your phone in $70 VR googles.

WAY cheaper solution than getting 8 x GoPros :)

360 Fly doesn't record at 60FPS though, which is all Dan cares about

i'm not planning on making my own content - the cool thing is the VR headset, not the cameras.

Well impressed with the Samsung VR. I rode that wave in Tahiti and it felt so real. As I have a natural stance and it was a left hander it felt like I was gonna wipeout...so real. For $150 it's good bang for buck. I'm gonna wait for the next one and when I upgrade to the s7. Oculus is gonna be massive.

Lol. I've had it for about six years, they still sell it for about $40!
I prefer it over my DAB because it doesn't chew batteries! Also prefer genuine AM ABC to be honest.

if you spent all day in the car listening to any radio station besides newsradio or 612 i reckon you'd go fucking postal.

Thank baby Jesus someone understands!

I've grown up on ABC. Digital is inconvenient. Perhaps if I had an office job where I could have it quietly playing in the background, running off mains, it would be more attractive. But my DAB radio is somewhat cumbersome, smashes batteries and is heavy. My portable analogue is convenient and takes a beating.

I also have a little gripe with the slight delay of digital. It's just a thing.

Anyway... I want a vr headset again now. Might start looking around.

I was going to get an Oculus Rift. But they are about $1200 landed. Plus i need a PC upgrade on top of that I am told. A mate has ordered one.

I used some VR goggles (with a Samsung Galaxy Edge) and it was pretty awesome. The dude who had it is a massive tech head and said that although he has an oculus rift on order, the Edge had a higher resolution. When I asked him about the PC power required for the oculus, he said it wasn't as bad as oculus were making out, and that if a phone could do it then there's no reason why a half decent pc should struggle.

It's pretty good, I just viewed some haunted house demo thing because Tim wouldn't send through any 60fps goodness.

I'd like to see this gopro surfing video everyone is talking about. Work is getting a hololens too, so will be interested to see how the AR goes.

the surfing thing is in the gopro store.

funny to hear that the phone has better resolution than the occulus. what is the point of spending $1,000 on the occulus then? the phone thing is $100 and doesn't need a computer.
