That photo is so great.
that's a really tragic story.
serious warning: the link below has the worst story of 'good times gone bad' I've heard in a minute.

Well I've had a lot going on in my life lately, figured that getting away with friends for a camping trip would be a good way to relax and get my mind off things.
A few days away was certainly good, but the ruined part is that my son ended up falling into the fire pit.
For those of you with kids, or who are around kids regularly, you just can't relax for a split second, because that is quite literally all it takes. It was actually the remains of the previous nights fire, and as such was coals and embers, but the results are still horrific. Second degree burns to a considerable amount of his arm, which would've been a whole lot worse had he not been dressed so heavily, or alternatively, had he fallen forward rather than backward.
I'm still upset about it and can't stress enough that it can happen to anyone, so stay aware at all times.

that really sucks mate :( poor fellah, lucky it happened while he is young so he has a chance to heal. i guess it hammers home why the park rangers always bang on about putting fires out with water - they are still mega hot even when they're not burning.

Dan- yeah man, definitely. Know that, and it's why we had a barrier of sorts up. The kids (5 of them) were well aware of the fire when it was going and we were extremely careful with them, but with the coals they were a little less obvious so put a circle of logs around to prevent accidents. As it turns out, the logs were the cause; one thing led to another and they were the trip hazard. I was only half a metre away.
But that's my point, you just can't risk it.
He's a tough kid, and that's legit. Doing well at the moment.

A friends son (2 years old) broke his leg about 4 weeks ago now, spiral fracture to his femur with a hip spica cast (entire left leg in cast, waist belt and short right leg cast). He coped well initially (but was still a bit shitty with the world), but has gone from strength to strength at home. 10 days out from the cast being off he uses the splint to help himself up and slides around the room on a matt pulling himself with his arms.

Kids are resilient, parents (somewhat ironically) are less so. Fingers crossed for a full recovery for him, and I hope you and Halz are feeling better soon.

Poor news! But you care, and this will aid his recovery more than anything else. Best of luck with it all

Terrible.... :(

Awful thing for you and Halz to go through. Wishing everyone the best during recovery. 2nd deg burns no laughing matter but shit that could have been a hell of a lot worse.

Having just finished renewing my First Aid Cert yesterday it makes me cringe to see that mate. My sister coped a similar burn when she was about 3. At first I did First Aid to get extra coin from work. Now i stick with it just in case something like this happens to my kids or family member and I am better equipped to help them. I burnt my hand pretty bad last week, but NOTHING compared to this.

Hope all the best for a fast and speedy recovery.

Sitting at O'Reillys watching the sunset and there's barely a cloud in the sky. Night will be colder than a witches tit, I'll be rigged up in my thermals gazing at the Milky Way.

And I forgot my metho canister for my trangia stove. But I have plenty of butane for my jetboil, just means dinner is gonna be a while yet.
