3GS or 4 (ie old model)

Post by iano » Thu 23 Jan, 2014 7:41 am

Well it seems the new vehicle has catapulted them into the 21st century tech wise.

Conversation went something like this:

Lexus: So are you anxious guys?
Mum: I haven't been more anxious since the day I brought my first baby home....
Dad: ~doesn't say much~
Lexus: You'll be happy to know the audio/navigation system has full bluetooth integration so you can both use your smartphones.
Dad: Mmm sounds good? (whips out his brick from 1996)
Mum: What's a blue tooth is that something out of breaking bad? :ohwell

He's still tight as a nun crack though and doesn't want to a) get one outright or b), sign onto a plan.

Does anyone have or know of/where a 3GS or 4 could be found for not a lot of cash? What are they worth nowadays, I'm guessing for a 4 probably no more than $200-$250, a 3GS subtract another 100 off that?

Could trawl fleabay or gumtree but I like being lazy and annoying and providing dan with flaming material.

Overclockers regularly has them. ~$180 for a 4, 3gs is not much less (people getting all sentimental about them).

Valid point actually.... Problem is that I know shit all about them so will be less use than a bull with tits when he rings up cursing and muttering.

I ought to write a book about baby boomer tech fails, I have enough examples.

Why do they need a smart phone? $50 will buy you a Nokia with Bluetooth, as well as hassle free support.

A lot of older phones don't have as good Bluetooth support with manufacturers in car - Ie I know a Prado didn't work with early iPod but they did work in the ford.

Just get something more recent and if they can afford a Lexus, a phone should be a joke.

Suggested a Nokia Lumia 520 as Microsoft Office is part of his DNA

Did you ever have one of these Ash/Euge? For 150 bucks outright it's bloody packed full of features, looks great value.

He's a fucking economist. Doesn't matter how much cash he has - irrelevant.

... and how does buying 'old' tech that 'might not work' save money? It doesn't.
