Trance peeps required to identify an album :D

Post by The Red Krawler » Mon 23 May, 2005 10:52 pm

Ahoy,

I know a fair few of you are into trance/techno/whatever so I'm hoping someone can help out with identifying this album.

I've posted it around the place cause I _REALLY_ want to find it!

Here is a copy/paste of the cross post:
When I was in grade 7 (1993?) a friends brother made a techno/trance tape for me from a place he was DJ'ing at. Loved it, and played it almost to death. I still love the music off it today, but cant find it anywhere. I hear various samples from it every now and then in "new" music, but I'd love to find the originals...

I dunno who any of the artists are, or even where it came from. I dont _THINK_ my mates brother made any of the music, just copied it from some trance CDs he had and used. All I know is that I was one raver little grade 7 kid

Apologies for the crap quality of the music, but I recorded it from an old tape player (only one I got!) into the mic socket of the sound card and then encoded it as a 64kb mp3 in mono. This was to keep the download sizes down, but the original tape sounds a lot better, but definately not perfect.

The most important one is the 140k intro. IT sounds like he says:
United Nations In Trance. Union Hardcore Mental Overdrive by Gary 1 3 8 B.

Dunno if that means anything off the bat, I could have transcripted that wrong :P

Cheers for any help

I would grab it .. if it wasn't 64k ...

I might have an idea ... was it on an Australian forum?

Eh? I just copied/pasted what I wrote on boost/SAU and wrapped it with quote tags so it didnt look like I was just spamming the same exact message on several forums :)

I encoded them at such a low bitrate to keep the download size small.... The tape quality isnt much better than 64k anyway, least of all after its travelled from tape player to sound card via a dodgy cord :P I _REALLY_ want to find that album so I can get a 192kVBR or 320kFBR version of it - its still the greatest trance (or whatever sub-genre it can be pigeon holed into) I've ever heard :)

side a - track 2 is 'force and styles - harmony' i think. force and styles was pretty 'basic' stuff, definitely way before trance.. it's early electronica, kinda in the same genre as daft punk. they had vocal-trance-ish vocals, but that's about as close as they came to trance.. the beats, tempo and drums are all wrong.

force and styles only released one album afaik, it's a double cd called 'heart of gold'.

the rest sounds a bit like force and styles, but a bit more varied... if it's a tape then there is a fair chance that it's just some random tracks all dubbed together mixtape stye. it's probably other force-and-styles-era stuff..

fns is really the arse end of electronic music, you definitely couldn't call yourself any sort of raver listening to that shit.

Track 4 Side 1 is "Dreams" by Quench.

...still listening to the others. Some of these are mega familiar.

*GRRR* - I know so many of these... but can't remember their names. I have some of them at home. Side B, Track 8 - I've got that at home on one of my old "Strictly Techno" albums. I'll sus more of it out when I get home - I'll be able to rumage through my collection to find out where I know these tracks from.

Cant say any of the newer stuff I've listened to has been what I'd call "better" than that tape :) More intricate/complex maybe, but not better. Arse of music? Maybe, in the same way action films are the arse end of the movie genre, but I'd still rather watch a dumbed down, high action, big budget blow-em-up action movie than, say, sea biscuit :P

Thanks for the help though

w00t!

It is too you know :D

I just downloaded a 192kbVBR version too... Everything is falling into place! :P

The Quench track is from an album "5000 Ohm", disc 2... Time to hunt that, although it could be a Quench album not a compilation.

Years ago I bought a cd single of all the "Dreams" remixes including the original versions. I tried to mp3 it for you last night, but CDex won't recognise my cd-rom. When I geek that issue out...I'll rip the cd and host it.

Side A Track 5 is an ultrasonic song remixed, I can't remember the name of it. Its from the tekno junkies or global tekno CD's.

The DJ's name is Gary 138 D, or Gary D.

http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gary+D.

No idea what album though, none of the above guesses match up with any of the track listings.

Side A and Side B of your tape is the majority of CD 1. As in - track 4 of Side B on your tape is the last track of CD 1.

And "I think" Track 5 of Side B is Track 1 of CD2.
