Secret Santa Level: Expert

Post by Splash » Mon 07 Dec, 2015 8:03 pm

In my family we do a secret Santa between my brothers and our partners.

Somehow we started a tradition of making it really hard to open the present if we happen to be buying for a brother.

For example one year my youngest bro was secret santa for middle bro. He got him a gift card, but "wrapped" it inside an MDF cube that was glue and screwed together, with all the screw heads filled and the whole thing painted so you couldn't see where the heads were. I think they ended up smashing it with a sledge hammer to get it open.

Unfortunately this year I'm buying for my sister in law, but Bri got my little bro so I joined in to "help"

He wanted Bunnings gift cards so I got some, a cheap metal toolbox and a pack of 25 pop rivets. This is the end result:

If you want me to weld it shut, let me know!!!

Line it with timber before you rivet and weld it shut.

Too good.

Adding to Cams idea, maybe some epoxy resin to hold it together.

LOL classic.

+1 - line it MDF or timber and go the extra yard with the welds.

You could drill them out. But if the wood inside is touching the metal, welding it would cause the wood to burn. Although there would be bugger all oxygen in there, it would still go black and fucking stink when you open it.

Actually that might add to the surprise.

Not to go offtopic, but speaking of things that are "see through".

I didn't even know these existed. They're advertised everywhere in the US though...

It's a composite LPG gas cylinder. The benefit is that you can see how much fuel you have left.

Should have put the gift cards outside the box, for example under that sticker. Would have been painful to do the obvious and find nothing inside.

not sure if these things are great in hot climates..... they also hold a lot less kg of gas for their volume than a steel bottle.
